BAY HEAD — Centennial Park in Bay Head was flooded with hundreds of residents throughout the evening as the first ever Music in the Park took place on Friday, Aug. 18.
“Music in the Park is a new offering in Bay Head as part of our one year old Bay Head Recreation Department. We want to bring music to the town in a casual festival-like environment,” said Vicki McHugh, Bay Head Recreation volunteer.
Ms. McHugh, who came up with the idea for Music in the Park, said, “I thought it was about time we use this beautiful park and bring more music into our lives.”
Residents from all over Bay Head brought their beach chairs and towels to Centennial Park on the warm summer evening, as the band, Side Hustle, performed all evening under the gazebo.
“We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful night or great band, Side Hustle, to kick off Music in the Park. Hopefully the beginning of years to come,” said Ms. McHugh.
The band, Side Hustle, featured Whitney Kelly on vocals and guitar, Greg Oaks on guitar, Dave Murphy on drums, Gehrig Cupo on bass and Doug Peterson on guitar and keyboard.
Craig McLean, band promoter and manager, told The Ocean Star, “We are just trying to have a little fun out here on a sunny day in a beautiful park.”
Ms. McLean hopes to come back later this year and into next year with more bands and more music to bring to Music in the Park. “I hope we can do more of these, I am really excited that we kept it a little quiet,” said Mr. McLean.
