SPRING LAKE — H.W. Mountz will be welcoming a new principal this school year and he will be hosting a Popsicles with the Principal event to get to know his new students and parents.
Daniel Layton will be starting as the new H.W. Mountz principal, supervisor of curriculum and instruction and board secretary this September after a career in education starting with teaching kindergarten in Spotswood for six years.
“I decided to enter the profession of public education to help shape the minds of our future generations,” said Mr. Layton. “After having many great educators along the way help me achieve my goals and aspirations, I knew it would be rewarding to help students and their families achieve success in school, life and career.”
To help get to know his new district, Mr. Layton is offering a Popsicles with the Principal event on Aug. 31 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on the Mountz playground.
According to Mr. Layton, the event will allow the students to come and play in a stress-free environment and socialize before the start of the school year. The event is also open to parents who want to come and get to know each other as well as Mr. Layton. He also said there will be plenty of allergen-friendly treats available to include all in the special event.
“I am offering this event specifically as an opportunity for me to invite the students in, in an informal way, so they can see me and meet me and I am not a strange face to them in the halls,” said Mr. Layton.
According to Mr. Layton, he will also be bringing his guitar and playing some of the songs he wrote during his time as a kindergarten teacher in order to create a strong and healthy relationship with some of the younger students coming in in September.
