SEA GIRT —The New Jersey Army National Guard Officer Candidate School Class 66 hosted the 19th annual Sergeant Nutter 5K Run last Saturday.
Each year, the race staff names an honoree to which all the funds from the race go. This year, New Jersey Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Jesse Smith was named this year’s honoree. He was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, which rendered him unable to work.
The race route began at the National Guard Training Center, and went along Sea Girt Avenue, First Avenue and Stockton Boulevard.
Roughly 150 participants raced through Sea Girt, with winners in a variety of age categories. Ben Scotto, 51, took the overall victory in the race, with a time of 18 minutes and one second.
