SEA GIRT — Sea Girt Recreation hosted a ribbon cutting and small festival on Tuesday, June 20 to unveil the new improvements and upgrades that have been done to Baltimore Park.
A multitude of people from across Sea Girt came out for the event, which featured an ice cream truck, face painter, inflatable slide and, of course, the newly upgraded playground equipment.
Chair of Sea Girt Recreation Commission Mike D’Altrui said the recreation department has been doing many improvements to Baltimore Park over the last 10 years; however, this upgrade comes after a major donation that was given to the recreation department and the town last year from two borough residents, Paul and Margo Hooker.
“We have lived in Sea Girt for over 20 years and we really love the town and the people, the services, the parks and everything. We just wanted to do something to give back,” said Mr. Hooker.
The plan was to install a large shade sail feature over the cluster of playground equipment in the northeast corner of the playground at Baltimore Park. The existing swings were relocated and the existing tire swing removed, replaced with new inclusive equipment.
“There is not a lot of shade over at the park,” according to Mr. D’Altrui, which is what led Mr. and Ms. Hooker to donate the shade canopies. He said the couple has grandkids who they take to the park often, and in the peak of the summer, the lack of shade combined with the heat can become unbearable.
