BRADLEY BEACH — Numerous 130th anniversary celebrations are in the works for Bradley Beach, with local businesses and organizations collaborating to recognize the milestone.
The tridecacentennial—130th anniversary—of Bradley Beach’s incorporation was officially on March 13. This summer, however, several events and commemorative activities will be held to mark the milestone. The Bradley Beach Business and Community Alliance [BBBCA] is hosting both the Flavors of Bradley Beach on June 10 and Parkfest on July 9.
In the weeks leading up to Memorial Day, the borough began hanging flags on lampposts heralding the town’s anniversary as a yearlong celebration.
“We are proudly celebrating this milestone with beautiful flags throughout the town,” said Paula Gavin, President of the BBBCA. “Our town has a rich and diverse history, and today 4,400 residents enjoy our special town.”
Other organizations are taking part in their own anniversary affairs, including the Shade Tree Commission, who are making plans to honor as many trees in town as possible which are older than 130 years.
“The town is celebrating 130 years this year,” Nick Kosarych, Vice-Chair of the Shade Tree Commission, told The Coast Star at last week’s Memorial Day Festival. “So we’re encouraging people who think they have trees that are older than the borough to come tell us so we can mark them.”
The Bradley Beach Historical Society, in partnership with the BBBCA, will also be celebrating the anniversary with a project, Mapping Main Street, intended to document “all the businesses that have graced the Main Street in Bradley Beach,” according to an Oct. 2022 Historical Society blog post. “The goal will be to create historical maps of Main Street from the founding of the borough through present day.”
