MANASQUAN — Ongoing parking issues in Manasquan came to a head at a special Public Safety Committee meeting last Wednesday as officials heard directly from residents.
More than a dozen members of the public attended the meeting, which was hosted by Councilmen Brian Holly, Jeffrey Lee and Gregg Olivera and Manasquan Police Chief Nicholas Tumminelli.
The issues discussed included student parking on side streets at Manasquan High School, which has been cited by residents as a cause of traffic congestion and related problems on these roads during the day.
Parking has always been a problem in Manasquan according to Councilman Lee, and everyone who attended this meeting agreed. The committee hopes that meetings like this, and the eventual passing of an ordinance in early August, according to Municipal Administrator Thomas Flarity, will help alleviate these problems.
Councilman Lee said by the next council meeting, the committee will have a tentative plan for how parking can be addressed within the town. The next council meeting will be on June 12.
Councilman Holly said the committee is more concerned with the residents living near the school rather than the students, yet still wanting to do what is best for Manasquan.
This meeting was treated as a town hall, with no formal action being taken. The committee presented a few ideas they had come up with, and encouraged all those in the audience to participate and give feedback to the committee.
