MANASQUAN — The Algonquin Theater hosted actor Andrew McCarthy on Tuesday, May 9 for a dialogue, question-and-answer session and book signing for his new book “Walking with Sam: A Father, a Son, and Five Hundred Miles Across Spain.”
The event was organized by the local bookstore BookTowne at 171 Main St. Mr. McCarthy went to the theater, where attendees received a signed copy of his book, and listened to him exchange a dialogue with Robert Andrews of Saint Peter’s University. Afterwards, all attendees were able to engage in a Q&A forum with Mr. McCarthy.
Stacey Montalto, bookseller and event coordinator, said, “We are very honored to be able to host someone like Andrew McCarthy, successfully. I think the community really enjoyed it. Having these events is a large part of what we do here at BookTowne, and we look forward to having more author events like this.”
Mr. McCarthy, an actor most notably known for his role as Blane in the 1986 film “Pretty in Pink,” also directed numerous episodes for television and streaming, such as “The Blacklist,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Awkwafina is Nora from Queens.”
Roughly 200 people attended the event. The books were signed prior to the event, but everyone who bought a ticket received a copy of the signed book. Mr. McCarthy did a “selfie-line” with attendees both before and after the event.
The book highlights Mr. McCarthy’s walk with his son on a 500-mile pilgrimage across Spain known as the Camino de Santiago.
