BRIELLE — More than 400 cyclists pedaled through Monmouth County shore towns on Saturday in the annual Bike MS: Coast the Coast fundraising ride. Participants had their choice of 25, 50 or 75 mile-routes to raise awareness and money for MultipleMultiple Sclerosis [MS] research.
The race began and ended in Deal and included pit stops in Brielle and Lavallette
Riders could re-fuel at the first pit stop, located at Brielle Elementary School, where they were greeted by volunteers, support staff, and pickle juice [the ultimate muscle-cramp deterrent].
One team of four adults — Amazing Grace Featuring Joe’s Angels — rode to honor their mom, who passed away from MS in the 1990s. After Lori Maimone’s mother passed away, she said her father, Joe, rode in every National MS Society race possible to support his wife.
Now, Joe’s daughter Lori has taken the torch, igniting the path ahead in search of a cure.
“If people with MS can be uncomfortable for a life time, we can be uncomfortable for a few hours,” said Ms. Maimone of Lincoln Park.
