SPRING LAKE — An ordinance authorizing the borough’s acquisition of Spring Lake Fire House #1 on Fifth Avenue was approved at Tuesday night’s borough council meeting.
The council also heard public comment on the borough’s plans to build a new recreation building at Marucci Park.
During the opening public comment period of the meeting, two residents inquired about the borough’s decision to build a new recreation building – located at the corner of Pitney and Third Avenue at Marucci Park. The current recreation shed, which, according to Mayor Jennifer Naughton, was built by the Department of Public Works around 25 years ago, is currently awaiting a “much needed” renovation.
Two residents introduced themselves as members of the “paddle community” who hope to be a part of the building’s design development, as they hope to make the space amenable to paddle and pickle ball players awaiting their turn on the court at Marucci Park.
The mayor reported that the building is currently undergoing its “architectural design” stage and will go out for construction bids this August. She further stated that design plans will include heating and electricity for the new building to winterize it.
