BRADLEY BEACH — Three infrastructure projects announced by the borough earlier this year are progressing towards completion, said Mayor Larry Fox in a Friday, May 5 newsletter.
Progress is being made in finishing the projects — the beachfront, the sewers and the footbridge that crosses Fletcher Lake into Ocean Grove, according to the newsletter.
The top infrastructure item on the newsletter is the impending replacement of a damaged outfall pipe on the beach at McCabe and Ocean Park avenues. The pipe was the site of a large sinkhole in the sand last summer that caused the area to be closed off for the rest of the season.
Mayor Fox said that work on the outfall pipe, of which there are three in Bradley Beach, is moving along steadily and that he expects pumps and pipes to be in place within the next week or two.
Also mentioned in the newsletter was the wrapping-up of Phase II of the sewerage project, which includes the replacement of curbsides with handicap-accessible aprons.
“The curbing and apron work is progressing on schedule,” said the Mayor. “We are moving west on Third Avenue and will hopefully finish this street early next week. Milling and paving should begin soon thereafter.”
The walking bridge connecting Bradley Beach to Ocean Grove is close to being finished, with just the new wire guards yet to be delivered. Mayor Fox said this should be completed shortly after the guards are installed.
“The walking bridge on Lake Terrace Drive between Bradley Beach and Ocean Grove began a needed facelift,” he said. “We are waiting for the new wire guards that will complement the wooden railings.”
