MANASQUAN — The borough council Monday introduced an ordinance that would extend the hours for retail liquor sales in Manasquan.
The amended ordinance would apply only to liquor stores, which sell alcoholic beverages for consumption off-site, not bars or restaurants, unless bars and restaurants are selling drinks to bring off-site.
Currently, liquor stores are permitted to sell from Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The proposed new language reads, “No licensee shall sell or deliver or allow [or permit] … the sale or delivery of any distilled spirits at retail in the original container for consumption off the licensed premises or allow [or permit] the removal of any distilled spirits in its original container from the retail licensed premises before 9 a.m. or after 10 p.m. on any day of the week except Sunday, and on Sunday before 10 a.m. or after 10 p.m., except as provided for by any rule or regulation of the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control.”
Mayor Edward Donovan said, “This was a request from businesses in town” to extend the time to allow later alcohol sales in Manasquan.
