BRICK TOWNSHIP — The Brick Historical Society held its annual Giant Yard Sale on April 22 at its Havens Homestead Museum property, featuring a wide variety of items to be purchased.
All proceeds raised at the yard sale will go toward repairs of the Lizzie Herbert House, located on Herbertsville Road, a building that is 230 years old. Water has seeped in and buckled the cedar siding of the structure.
The proceeds will also cover maintenance on older buildings like the Lizzie Herbert House and the Havens Homestead, which dates back to 1827.
“The bake sale is always popular, and the large pies and cakes went quickly in the morning. I saw two different people leaving carrying two cakes each,” said Jane Fabach, press secretary for the historical society.
“I made four pineapple-upside-down cakes, and if I have time, I will try to make more for the Civil War Encampment event, which is Aug. 5 and 6 when we also have a large bake sale. My friend Georgia Ruvelas made several dozen Greek cookies and we fixed them on 16 plates, and all sold.”
