MANASQUAN — Officers of the Manasquan Police Department [MPD] participated in the 21st annual Blue Mass event in collaboration with Saint Denis Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, April 13.
The Blue Mass, held at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine in Freehold, was attended by police departments and parishioners from several counties who came together to show support for the law enforcement community as well as the church.
The event returned from its hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said the Rev. William Lago of St. Denis parish. He was accompanied by two Manasquan officers, Sgt. Johne Ringo and Ptl. Greg Gavin.
“Turnout was terrific,” Rev. Lago said. “There was representation from Ocean, Monmouth, Mercer and Burlington counties.”
Bishop David M. O’Connell of the Diocese of Trenton served as the principal celebrant and homilist. Co-celebrants included priests from parishes across Monmouth, Ocean, Mercer and Burlington counties. Bagpipers, fife, drum corps and color guard members contributed to the celebration.
