The 2023-2024 municipal budget was introduced at the council meeting on Monday, April 17, with a proposed tax rate increase of one penny.
At the time of publication, a breakdown of home per home assessment, and how much these taxes would be per resident, was unavailable. However, according to the town’s online “user-friendly” budget, the total estimated amount to be raised by taxes is $34,864,887.16, an increase from last year’s budget of $34,027,279.88.
Total general revenues and appropriations amount to $13,611,975, a $1,339,577 increase from last year’s $12,272,397.
There will be a public hearing on the budget and a vote on its passage at the Monday, May 15 council meeting.
Amy Spera, certified municipal financial officer, explained, “Each year when we are preparing our budget, the state comes out and gives us a certain percentage we are allowed to increase our in-cap budget appropriations over the prior years.”
