POINT PLEASANT — Parents and children will have the opportunity to dress up as their favorite superheroes and take part in the Superhero Family Fun Run on Sunday, April 23 at 10 a.m. at Point Pleasant Borough High School [PPBHS].
Nellie F. Bennett Elementary Gym Teacher Gregory Akins holds events like this through his organization G-Funk Entertainment LLC. This will be the second year he will be doing this event. Mr. Akins said he has previously run similar events in the past, but last year was the first to have a superhero theme.
“I’m just trying to do something new for the community to get kids and families to come together to get some exercise in a positive environment,” said Mr. Akins. He also said the inspiration for this event was his wife.
“Six years ago, she and I were discussing fun ways to get kids involved in fun activities over the summer that were uniquely different than a day camp. We thought this would be a fun way to encourage kids to be active.”
Mr. Akins said, “This is one of my favorite summer programs. Each summer we get a chance to meet kids from all over Ocean and Monmouth counties.”
