AVON-BY-THE-SEA — The Avon Historical Society has created its fifth display at the Avon Post Office this month that touches on the history of the Avon School.
“We don’t have a museum like all the other towns,” said Norah Magrini, Avon Historical Society President. “I get stuff donated to me all the time for the society and I wanted a way to display them for residents…It was also a way to bring back some interest in the club and get some members.”
The first display created by Ms. Magrini was the history of the Avon Post Office. According to her, the staff loved it so much that they agreed to let her create and change the display every three months. Some past displays included the Avon pool and landmark hotels. Now, through the month of June, the display will feature artifacts from Avon school throughout the years. The Avon School will also be taking the students on a field trip to see the display before the end of the school year.
“I have been here since I was eight and I went to Avon school, so I had stuff of my own,” said Ms. Magrini. “My sisters went to school here and there are so many people who did not move away…I have gotten three diplomas from different graduating classes.”
