POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The Point Pleasant Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Business Improvement District (BID) came together to create and send surveys to businesses and residents to find out what improvements they feel are needed in the downtown area.
“[BID] will guide the initiative for things like a facade improvement program or finding some funding opportunities for new seating or bike racks,” said Kristin O’Rourke, Quality of Life Director of Point Pleasant Beach. “It can also help create intangible things like an app for parking or to advertise sales or promotions at local businesses.”
Point Pleasant Beach Mayor Paul Kanitra said, “The Council chose to implement the BID after almost two years of studying our downtown and business climate. The BID is meant to focus on having a clear, cohesive vision for the future of downtown. Honoring our historic past and safeguarding the future.”
These types of business improvement organizations are created to collect an assessment, or fee, on commercial properties and/or businesses which can be used for various activities, additional services, programming, incentives, etc. to be reinvested in that area.
