BELMAR — Rev. David M. O’Connell of Trenton will officiate the Investiture Mass at the St. Rose Catholic Church at 603 7th Ave. on March 4 at 10 a.m., laying the ground for all the festivities for the Sunday, March 5 50th Belmar Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
“The highlight of Parade weekend is the Mass and it’s always wonderful when we are able to celebrate with Bishop O’Connell,” sad Mass Chairwoman Patricia Feehery.
Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Arnister of St. Rose, Belmar, will co-officiate the mass with the support of monsignors, priests, deacons from neighboring participating towns.
The mass will start with a procession led by playing of pipes and drums by the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of Old Bridge and the Jersey Shore, followed by the banner of Saint Patrick, the Belmar Lake Como Parade Committee, the past Grand and Deputy Grand Marshals and this year’s Grand Marshal Eugene “Chip” Cavanagh.
Music will be performed by the St. Rose Choir accompanied by violinist Kathleen McGee-Daly. A solo performance of the Star Spangled Banner, Irish National Anthem, A Soldier’s Song Danny Boy, and Our Lady of Knock by Irish singer Bobby Byrne.
Also expected to attend are The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, The Order of Friendly Sons of Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore, The Order of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of Old Bridge, The Women of Irish Heritage and the Irish American Cultural Institute, Jersey Shore Chapter.
