POINT PLEASANT — Point Pleasant Borough High School [PPBHS] is making its final preparations for next week’s spring musical production, “Shrek the Musical.”
The Tony Award-winning Broadway musical will be brought to life from Thursday, March 9 to Sunday, March 12 as the stage transforms into the iconic swamp of the lovable, green ogre.
According to the press release from the theater department at PPBHS, “You may think you know all there is to know about that grumpy, green ogre and his sidekicks, but prepare to be surprised. More songs, more dancing, moving set pieces, intricate costumes – SHREK The Musical offers so much theatricality. Immerse yourself in a world of characters you know and love, on a massive scale that seems to bring all the fairytales to life at once! This modern take on the classic tale of an underdog who learns the meaning of friendship, inner beauty, and that everything has layers is the perfect stage adventure for any age.”
Luke Baker, senior of PPBHS and star of the show as the titular character Shrek, talks about how tough it was to make this character his own. Luke references the iconic voice of Michael Myers from the Dreamworks films, and how he wanted to emulate that energy with the voice, without making his voice seem as if he was just trying to mimic it.
Luke goes on to say how excited he is about this production, saying it is most likely the campiest production that PPBHS has ever put on.
