MANASQUAN — Manasquan High School [MHS] inducted six new alumni into the second annual Academic Hall of Fame ceremony.
To honor past students who have made significant strides in careers, Jim Fagen, teacher of MHS, and the rest of the Academic Hall of Fame Committee invited these individuals back to Manasquan for brunch and a ceremony celebrating their accomplishments. The individuals were nominated by their peers and submitted to the committee, where the committee then selects who will be honored in this year’s ceremony. The candidates must have graduated from MHS for at least 20 years.
Mr. Fagen said, “We make it more about what people go on to do after their careers, and how Manasquan set them on a path to success.”
The Academic Hall of Fame aims to, “recognize members of the Blue and Gray family who have demonstrated a commitment to education, a depth of scholarship, a desire to serve their community, and both outstanding and creative work in their respective field. Inductees will be recognized for their career and life achievements, which began with their academic preparation within the walls of Manasquan High School,” according to Mr. Fagen.
Once selected, current students interview the inductees and write about their accomplishments and strides within their fields. Assistant Superintendent Jesse Place said, “We have so many successful students who come out of [MHS], athletically and academically. It is really important for our current students to see this success from prior generations. This serves as a great model our current students can strive for,” highlighting the importance of giving students good role models.
