BELMAR — More than 200 eager guests flocked to the Taylor Pavilion last week to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
According to Luis Pulido, Belmar Public Library staff and researcher, the turnout exceeded the 150 email invitations the library sent out.
Mayor Gerald Buccafusco and councilwomen Jodi Kinney and Maria Rondaniro were among the officials who attended.
Alvin and Cindy Toy, originally from Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York and Holmdel, New Jersey, recently moved to Belmar for its beach sunset walks.
“We were really surprised that the public library sponsored the event,” said Cindy Toy. “In Holmdel, maybe it’s 20 to 30 percent Chinese and Asian. Here, everyone made us feel welcome. I felt at home.”
Mr. Toy agreed, saying, “People are friendly towards me.”
