BRIELLE — The Brielle Public Library will display the third annual Art for Sea art exhibit from February to April 30, focusing on art pieces developed from recycled material.
The Art for Sea foundation, founded by executive director Suzanne Crosby, raises money “to support ocean conservation initiatives that are carried out by other existing organizations,” as stated on their website.
The organization was formed in May of 2021 with a goal of bringing together “like-minded artists who wish to support ocean conservation initiatives through the sale of their artwork.”
Through sale of artwork, workshops, field trips, lectures and other events, the foundation raises funds and awareness about the “need for greater efforts to restore health to our ocean and its associated tributaries.”
The exhibit at the Brielle Public Library shows a collection of different artists that have created art from recycled materials such as yard signs, beach trash and varied construction materials with the goal to raise money to provide grants for internships for ocean conservation groups.
“We even asked politicians if we could use their political yard signs and paint on the back of them,” explained Ms. Crosby. “It’s an interesting way to avoid putting them in a landfill. We also painted on housing siding that was made out of plastic as well as reusing paint swatches.”
