BRICK TOWNSHIP — Mayor John Ducey confirmed Thursday that he has been nominated by Gov. Phil Murphy for appointment as a Superior Court Judge.
Mayor Ducey’s name was one of several listed as judicial nominees in a notice of intention filed by the governor’s office on Monday.
If his nomination is approved by a legislative panel, Mr. Ducey would serve as a Superior Court judge and be assigned to a county vicinage. Currently, it is not known whether that vicinage would be Ocean County or another location in New Jersey.
Mr. Ducey is a practicing attorney, with a solo practice on Herbertsville Road. He has twice been elected mayor as a Democrat, following two years as a member of the township council. His current mayoral term runs through 2025.
According to his official biography, the mayor received his law degree from the University of Miami and began his legal career as a clerk for Ocean County Superior Court Judge James D. Clyne. He spent eight years with the Brick law firm of Mauro, Barry and Prindiville before opening his solo practice.
Mr. Ducey is also a past president of the Ocean County Bar Association, as well as a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He has served as a volunteer civil mediator for the Supreme Court of New Jersey ethics committee and currently serves on an Office of Attorney fee arbitration committee.
