BAY HEAD– Bay Head School [BHS] has been ranked fourth on The Best Schools ranking of the 50 Best Public Elementary Schools in the United States.
This is the second time BHS landed among the top 50 in the nation. The first time was in 2015.
The Best Schools [thebestschools.org, TBS] ranks elementary, middle and high schools in the U.S. using data from state-assessment scores and state-administered tests. The list focused on third, fourth and fifth grade scores and achievements, but overall ranking included combined academic and extra-curricular programs that encourage creative learning for all students.
Among the unique programs that BHS was noted for are the various “outdoor” opportunities it offers to its students, such as sports– basketball, softball, soccer, and tennis– as well as student clubs– garden club, aviation club, safety patrol, magic club, student council, art club, Kid Fit Club, chess club and homework club. It also noted the school for taking “all classes to go on two or more field trips per year.”
In terms of technology, BHS provides iPads and laptop computers for individual work, and teachers have Smart Boards and Smart Responders for learning through group engagement.
“Being a small school that gives the students a lot of outside opportunities other than just a solid education. We really put our school above others because I feel we have a lot of unique opportunities for kids to be successful. That’s something that we strive to do – educate all students not just inside the classroom but outside. It’s something that we have continuously been striving for,” said Principal Frank Camardo.
