POINT PLEASANT BEACH — The new year began in Point Pleasant Beach with the borough council’s reorganization meeting, in which council members Douglas Vitale and Arlene Testa took their oaths of office for their second term.
The Borough Hall meeting room was packed at noon on Jan. 2 with family members, friends, borough officials and other guests coming out to show their support for the ceremonial swear-ins.
The meeting began with a prayer from John Durante from the Jersey Shore Calvary Chapel, followed by the swearing in of Council President Douglas Vitale, who ran successfully once more for the seat as a Republican in the November election. He was joined by his wife and three children.
In acknowledging Mr. Vitale’s success, Mayor Paul Kanitra said, “The idea of public service is a good one, and it’s nice to want to be able to volunteer, but to actually be able to bring something substantive to the table is such a rare thing these days. And I can tell you, from my perspective, I’m so happy to have you up here doing another term.”
