LAVALLETTE — Anita Zalom, serving her 36th year on the borough council, has been selected to serve as council president again this year.
Councilman David Finter nominated Ms. Zalom during the municipal reorganization meeting held Jan. 3, and she was approved in a unanimous vote.
Councilman James Borowski spoke about Ms. Zalom, bringing her to tears, saying, “Sometimes we may smile at Anita’s enthusiasm and passion for what she does, but I know of no one that has a greater love and commitment to this community than this dear woman.
“She works tirelessly for everyone’s behalf and she puts everyone ahead of herself, she’ll do anything for anyone. I am proud to sit here with you, Council President.”
Council President Zalom stated that she was “very proud” to serve the Lavallette council as the president.
Mayor Walter LaCicero, along with Councilmen Robert Lamb and Michael Stogdill, were sworn in to new three-year terms after being re-elected in November.
Mayor LaCicero will be starting his fifth term, after being elected in 2007, while Councilman Lamb was elected in 2005 and Councilman Stogdill in 2007.
“If you told me 18 years ago that I would still be sitting here with Bob and Michael… it’s pretty incredible,” said Mayor LaCicero.
