POINT PLEASANT — The original members of the Point Pleasant Borough High School Surf Team will be graduating in 2023, making them the first four-year members to graduate.
In August 2018, then rising freshman Scarlet Scillia and her mother Linda Pepper started the process of forming a team that would be approved by the Point Pleasant Board of Education in January of 2019.
Scarlet said, “It’s been so rewarding to see how far the team has come in these few years. I’m so proud of the support we have received from bringing this tiny idea of forming a surf team to it becoming a reality for the kids in Point Boro High School. I am so excited that the kids will now always have a surf team because of what we started. I just really hope we place as a team at states and bring home a trophy in my last season.”
The original founding members graduating this year include Ryan Devins, Kevin Farina, Andrew Lockwood, Nicole Cyriacus, Andrew Warade, AJ Demillio, Kayla Smith and Brian Ostrander.
Ryan said, “I am so excited for the surf season to start. We have a lot of new surfers this season and it should be a lot of fun. It’s my last season and I want to surf well and bring home hopefully we will get a team trophy this year at states.”
