MANASQUAN — The planning board on Tuesday carried until Sept. 13 an application by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1838 on Ridge Avenue.
Keith Henderson, attorney for the VFW, explained that many problems delayed the review, including that the original engineer for the project moved to Florida, and a new engineer had to be hired.
The last outstanding issue on the property is that the drainage system on the property had been improperly installed, he said. Other issues have been resolved, he said.
“If any members of the board have looked, one of the sheds has been removed. Another shed has been made compliant with the five-yard setback,” Mr. Henderson said. “The outdoor shower has been removed. But the most important thing is we’re getting to the bottom of the drainage issue. And we will have that resolved when we come back.”
In 2013, the VFW had received site plan approval from the planning board to construct a two-bay, garage-type building to be used for storing folding chairs and tables.
The current application seeks amended site plan approval, including retroactive approval of an outdoor bar that was since built behind the garage; a long, concrete table to accommodate wheelchair seating, built in the rear yard of the VFW property; as well as awnings installed over the outdoor patios. Those improvements were not mentioned in the 2013 approval.
