SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — The borough council Monday unanimously approved a resolution seeking bids for the renovation of the borough’s Joseph E. Robertson Park.
The resolution allows borough administration to contact professionals to complete what is estimated to be $175,000 worth of work. The work will include the construction of the park’s new walking paths, mulching of newly planted trees and reconstruction of the snack bar run by Tri-Shore Little League.
The borough will look to defer repavement of the park’s parking lot due to the skyrocketing price of asphalt, which according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation has more than doubled over the past five years.
Councilwoman Sara King said they will look to change at least six ordinances in upcoming meetings to ease the start of the park’s renovations, which are expected to begin around early August.
“A lot of this work is depending on timing and could possibly be going on at the same time,” Ms. King said. “So just giving everybody a heads up that the park could be very busy.”
These renovations are a component of the capital ordinance passed earlier this year, which designated approximately $1 million for the improvement of the local parks. Around $250,000 of that money, which includes grants received by the borough, is expected to be used for Robertson Park specifically.
In other business, the borough council recognized Colleen Dickenson and Maeve Sprang, both seniors at Manasquan High School, for their achievements in receiving the Girl Scouts’ Gold Award, the highest recognition within the program.
In order to receive the Gold Award, Colleen and Maeve completed service projects of at least 80 hours, giving back to their communities in forms that can be appreciated by its residents for years to come.
