SEA GIRT — Registration for the Sea Girt 5K presented by Walker Wealth Management at UBS is now available.
Now in its 31st year, the race will be held on Aug. 6 to benefit the Sea Girt Recreation Department and Ashley Lauren Foundation.
“This 5K is awesome. It’s going to be huge and it benefits a local charity,” said Janeen Yodakis, recreation director.
The event, which is one of the largest 5K’s in New Jersey, begins at the Sea Girt Plaza outside of Fratello’s Restaurant and takes participants through a scenic course with live music playing along the way.
The 5K run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. with kids races starting at 10 a.m. There will be activities for kids including a giant obstacle course, pony rides, a bouncy castle and more from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. After the race, an after party will be held at Fratello’s Restaurant.
Proceeds from the event will mainly benefit the Sea Girt Recreation Department. Funds will be utilized for improvements to programs and facilities. In the past 16 years, this event has raised over $500,000 for Sea Girt Recreation and other charities.
This year, the Ashley Lauren Foundation has been chosen as the charitable beneficiary. The foundation will use the proceeds from the 5K to ease the journey of children with pediatric cancer after initial diagnosis. The funds go towards medical expenses and emotional assistance.
“We are so honored and grateful to have been chosen as a beneficiary of this year’s amazing Sea Girt 5K. The 5K is a much anticipated annual event and we are so happy to be part of it. It affords us the wonderful opportunity to partner with our local community in order to spread the message of our mission of bringing hope and help to children with cancer in New Jersey,” Monica Vermeulen of the Ashley Lauren foundation stated.
