BRICK TOWNSHIP — The council approved a bond ordinance to fund a dredging project at Nejecho Beach Lagoon at Tuesday night’s meeting.
This project, which will take place along the Nejecho Lagoon located off Mantoloking Road, is likely to be completed in June, according to Councilman Art Halloran.
“The township has acquired a statewide dredge permit from the NJDEP for a project that is years in the making. Our engineering department has identified five priority areas in need of dredging and has identified Nejecho Lagoon as the first lagoon to be dredged,” he said at the meeting on May 10.
Members of the council worked with residents in the area to plan the project. The cost of the project per resident will depend on how many feet their property has along the lagoon frontage.
As a part of the project, residents have agreed to pay for sand removal. This sand, which has been tested and meets state standards, will be transported to Windward Beach Park, according to officials.
A bond of $300,000 has been unanimously approved by the township council to fund the project.
