POINT PLEASANT — The spring Band Booster clothing drive for the Point Pleasant High School band was held in the high school parking lot in front of the Laura Donley auditorium doors on Monday and Tuesday.
Michelle Haugh, president of the Band Boosters told The Ocean Star, “It went very well. We seem to have collected a lot of clothes and we expect to fill an entire truck, and another truck will be on standby if needed.”
“The clothing drive is always a huge success, we have used various companies so it can vary on what they collect and what they pay out,” she said, explaining that during the pandemic less pay was granted.
The April 25-26 event ran from 3 to 5 p.m. and April 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Previously, when pandemic restrictions kept the annual collection from school property, the drive was held at the homes of volunteers, Ms. Haugh noted.
“This year we were happy to be back at the school,” she said.
Items that were collected this year included men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes, hats, belts, ties, handbags, coats, jackets, bed linens, bath linens and stuffed animals.
The clothing that is collected is distributed to areas in need of clothing. All clean wearable clothing and shoes will be reused by less fortunate people and families. The clothing does not end up in landfills thus helping to keep America green and clean.
The Band Boosters use this event to raise money to assist with expenses such as band competition props and gear, music and scholarships.
The Band Boosters are parents, guardians and volunteers that support the high school bands. These bands include competition marching band, pep band, concert band, orchestra pit, jazz band and percussion ensemble. Students require assistance and support throughout their school year both financially and physically.
