BRICK TOWNSHIP— Brick police have arrested two suspects in connection with a burglary on 18th Avenue that happened on April 27.
Just after 1 p.m. that day, police responded to a report of a burglary in the 18th Ave. area. Officers soon discovered two suspects and a vehicle matching the description near the Red Rock Liquor Shoppe on Route 70, police said.
The suspects fled on foot in opposite directions when officers arrived, police said.
One suspect, Jermaine Mayer Jr., 20, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, was soon arrested by Ptl. Christopher Newlund.
The other suspect, Marquis Pettise, also age 20 from Allentown, was arrested later after returning to his vehicle to discard a handgun, police said. Mr. Pettise removed the handgun from the side of the vehicle, and threw it on the ground beside the liquor store, authorities said. Mr. Pettise was soon apprehended on Brielle Bridge by Ptl. Matthew Knehr.
Police were seen searching around the area on the building’s rooftops and under parked cars. Eventually, police recovered the handgun, as well as a high-capacity magazine.
Charges filed against Mr. Pettise and Mr. Newlund include armed burglary, criminal mischief, possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, possession of high capacity magazine, possession of hollow point ammunition and obstruction, police said.
Both suspects were lodged in Ocean County Jail in Toms River. According to the Ocean County Jail, Mr. Pettise was still incarcerated at press time. Mr. Mayer was released on recognizance on May 2, according to jail officials.
