Aggressive driving stop in Brick leads to drug arrests

BRICK TOWNSHIP —Two Barnegat residents were arrested in the afternoon of New Year’s Eve by Brick Township Police Department Street Crime Unit [SCU] detectives after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

At approximately noon on Friday, Dec. 31, SCU detectives observed an erratic driver on Beaverson Boulevard who was cutting other motorists off aggressively, police said.

Police eventually pulled over the vehicle near the intersection of Shorrock Street and Route 70 at the Lakewood/Brick town line. Upon investigating the vehicle and its two occupants, detectives discovered multiple illicit substances on each person, authorities said.

The passenger, 25-year-old Joseph Catanzaro, was found in possession of crack cocaine, methadone and paraphernalia, authorities said. According to a Brick Police press release, Mr. Catanzaro gave detectives false information during their investigation.

Mr. Catanzaro was charged on a warrant with possession of crack, methadone, paraphernalia and hindering apprehension, police said. He was put in Ocean County Jail.

The driver, 19-year-old Adrianna Buttacavoli, was found in possession of Xanax pills and paraphernalia, police said.

Ms. Buttacavoli was charged with possession of Xanax, possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and careless driving, authorities said. Brick police said she was released on a summons.
