The Brick Township Police Departments Emergency Medical Services [EMS] team, as well as a number of emergency medical technicians [EMT] were honored for their service at the annual EMT Awards Conference in Atlantic City Friday, Nov. 12.
“We are really proud of our EMTs,” Brick Police wrote in a Facebook post. “We are proud to work along side of you all as First Responders serving this great town.”
The Brick Police EMS were nominated for the community service award. EMT Stacy Speidel was nominated for EMT of the Year.
EMTs Joe Sharkey and Brian Schwarz were nominated for Outstanding Call by a Team. The call the team was nominated for was when Mr. Sharkey and Mr. Schwarz saved a Brick man from a ‘widow-maker’ heart attack back on Halloween of 2020. The EMTs arrived six minutes after the 911 call was placed, performed CPR, engaged a defibrillator, rushed the Brick man to Ocean County Medical Center and saved his life in doing so.
Also being honored was part-time EMT Armando Tamargo who placed third in the state EMS Simulation Competition with the JFK Medical Center’s Basic Life Support certification team.
“Congratulations to our outstanding EMS Division,” the Brick Police Department stated. “Great job representing this Department and our community with dedication and professionalism.”
