Heights Board of Education welcomes new member

SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS — Kara Clarke Matunas was sworn into the Spring Lake Board of Education during its meeting Monday, Sept. 27.

Ms. Matunas’ position fills the empty seat created from the departure of former Board President James McCarthy, who’s 11 years of service was honored during the meeting.

“We should recognize that you spent your time focusing on what was best for the school, what was best for the students and what was best for the community,” BOE President Anne McGarry told Mr. McCarthy. “And all the while reminding some of us, myself included, how important it was for us to be mindful of the taxpayers.”

After thorough interviews by the board, Ms. Mantunas was selected to fill-in after McCarthy’s departure.

Ms. Matunas has experience with the Heights’ PTA positions, including president and treasurer. She also works as a home instructor in Freehold.

“To know that I have the support of the current Spring Lake Heights Board of Education Members, who selected me to take on this role,” Ms. Matunas told The Coast Star. “I look forward to working collaboratively with them.”

Ms. Matunas will be on the ballot for the upcoming Spring Lake Heights Board of Education election.
