BAY HEAD — Well known by residents as “Touchdown Tommy,” Thomas Vaughn made his last run delivering ice cream on Saturday before heading to Florida to begin his retirement.

Mr. Vaughn has been making Bay Head summer days sweeter for the past 35 years by providing residents with ice cream during the summer months.

Commonly found selling ice cream on East Avenue along the beach entrances, Mr. Vaughn made a tremendous impact on the community, touching many lives in the process.

Mayor William Curtis expressed his appreciation for Tommy, ”We’re going to miss him, he’s an institution in Bay Head. He’s been there for years and years, and he’s always had that route. He’s been so good with the children and obeying all the rules of Bay Head, he’s just a phenomenal guy.”
