POINT PLEASANT — The borough will welcome a new zoning and code enforcement officer beginning next week after her predecessor’s employment was terminated at a special meeting of the borough council last month.

At the June 28 meeting of the Point Pleasant Borough Council the governing body hired Colleen Malvasio as the new zoning and code enforcement official beginning Monday, July 12.

According to a release on the hiring, Ms. Malvasio has worked for the Borough of Mantoloking for the past eight years, where she has worn multiple hats, including that of technical assistant to the construction official, land use officer, code enforcement officer and joint planning and zoning board secretary.

Prior to her tenure in Mantoloking, she had a 10-year career in Red Bank as the technical assistant to the construction official and zoning department assistant. She holds multiple certifications from the State of New Jersey including a Zoning Official Certification, Technical Assistant Certification and a Planning and Zoning Board Secretary Certification.

“Ms. Malvasio was outstanding in the interview process. She not only has a successful body of work in the field of land use through her experience, but her grasp of zoning and code enforcement issues was impressive,” Borough Administrator Frank Pannucci Jr. said in a statement.

Members of the governing body were pleased to welcome Ms. Malvasio to the borough.

“Change is good for everything so we look forward to her being a very effective, very positive employee,” Mayor Robert Sabosik said during the June 28 meeting. “I know that her heart is here to help the town. We interviewed a lot of people for this position and she just did a tremendous job on her interview so we look forward to her joining the team of Point Pleasant.”

“Our building department overall is going through some changes now … and our aim is to strengthen the department to meet the demands of today. We are in a transition period, but very soon it will be operating at full capacity to meet our residents’ needs,” he added this week.

According to Council President Antoinette DePaola, Ms. Malvasio’s “references were impeccable” and she too looked forward to welcoming her to the borough.

“For the last few weeks, the administrator and various personnel including police have been pitching in to handle a lot of zoning and code enforcement issues until Ms. Malvasio begins work,” she said in a statement.

“We had several great candidates interview for the position, but she presented the best overall package being so well versed in multiple land use areas and especially her philosophy on customer service. She will be a great benefit to the Borough of Point Pleasant and I know our residents will be happy with her service.”
