POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant School District administration has been busy at work developing plans to conduct an in-person graduation ceremony for Point Pleasant Borough High School’s Class of 2021, as well as an in-person promotion ceremony for Memorial Middle School’s eighth-grade class.

“Governor [Phil] Murphy has lifted outdoor restrictions for in-person events and we look forward to continuing the tradition of celebrating our [students] in a ceremony conducted on the Pinebelt Stadium at Al Saner Field,” a May 19 letter posted on the district website from Superintendent of Schools Vincent S. Smith reads.

Earlier this month Gov. Murphy announced the increasing of outdoor gathering limits to 500 persons.

“Since restrictions for in-person indoor events would greatly impact the graduation program, we are developing a plan to conduct the graduation [and promotion] outside by utilizing a flexible schedule,” Superintendent Smith added.

According to the letter to the senior parents, if the weather cooperates, the high school graduation will take place on Friday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. As weather conditions are monitored the week of graduation, should inclement weather prohibit a ceremony from taking place the evening of June 18, the graduation ceremony will be moved to either Friday, June 18 at 3 p.m. or Thursday, June 17 at either at 3 or 6:30 p.m. based on weather conditions.

According to the letter to the eighth-grade parents, the promotion ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. Should inclement weather prohibit the ceremony from taking place the evening of June 17, the ceremony will be moved to June 18 at either 1 or 4 p.m. If the high school graduation ceremony is predicted to be affected by inclement weather, the middle school’s promotion ceremony will be moved to 1 or 4 p.m. on June 17.
