High school student to hold basketball tournament Saturday

MANASQUAN — For her National Honor Society project, Manasquan High School junior Dorothy Loffredo has organized a basketball tournament to benefit the Autism Movement Project [AMP].

The 3 v 3 basketball tournament is being held this Saturday, April 10 at St. Denis. The fee to participate is $40; participants will receive a T-shirt and winners will be given a trophy. There are three tiers of competition: middle school, high school and adults.

Those who wish to participate in the tournament can register up until the day of the event. To sign up, text Dorothy at 732-749-0075 with team members’ names, age group and a phone number.

“This whole operation has many facets,” Dorothy said of her NHS project. From securing sponsorships to organizing teams and playing brackets to “learning the finer points of event production,” Dorothy’s goal is to have a successful event on Saturday.

“I am hoping to have a great turnout at every level,” she said. “I want to raise as much money as possible to make this a success.”

All proceeds from the event will be donated to AMP, a Manasquan-based 501[c][3] nonprofit organization that provides fitness and sports programs to individuals with developmental delays.
