Fire in Lake Como on 18th Avenue

LAKE COMO — Fire alarms and sirens were heard in Lake Como after a fire broke out at 517 18th Ave. on Tuesday, April 6.

The Belmar Fire Department was dispatched to the home at 1:25 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Belmar Fire Marshal Ryan Dullea.

Upon arrival, he said, the fire department encountered heavy fire spreading to multiple structures, with three nearby buildings sustaining exterior damage due to radiant heat. One structure sustained significant damage, and tow sheds were completely destroyed, the fire marshal said.

One firefighter sustained a hand injury and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for care. He has since been released.  

The fire is being investigated by the Belmar Fire Marshal’s Office, assisted by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal Office. The fire is currently under investigation and no cause has been determined at this time, according to Mr. Dullea.
