POINT PLEASANT — The Point Boro First Aid Squad and Point Pleasant Fire Department Station 75 are the recipients of $1,400 checks from the organizers of the Boro4Boro Shirt Project.

In the summer of 2020, 10 area eateries, retailers and other establishments launched the Boro4Boro Shirt Project, a collaborative effort that raised $5,000 through the sale of T-shirts to support the first responders and firefighters amid their commitment to serving and protecting the community during the global coronavirus pandemic.

For the winter season, a second wave of apparel, this time hoodies, went on sale. They feature the same design of a wave with the Point Pleasant Boro logo, the emblem of the EMS and fire department, the names of the sponsors surrounding it, as well as the tagline “Healing Comes In Waves,” to support the local agencies.

Through the support of the community that came together to purchase the T-shirts and hoodies, the Boro4Boro project was able to raise nearly $8,000 to support the volunteer first responders.

“On one hand, I’m not surprised. The town is so tight-knit that they turn out for things that matter. On the other hand, I’m so grateful for it, too,” Chelsea Sweerus, of Ocean Road Barbershop, told The Ocean Star.

“We started the project as a way to keep our minds in a good and hopeful place. If the project flopped I think it would have been a dagger in the heart on top of everything else this year. Conversely, the support filled my heart with hope for brighter days. It was a lifeline for me, it gave me purpose and focused me on something soul fulfilling. You know what they say: Be the good you want to see in the world.”
