LAVALLETTE — The Lavallette school district’s tax levy will increase by 2.6 percent in the next fiscal year, under the preliminary budget approved by the school board on Tuesday night.

The nearly $5 million proposed budget must be approved by the Ocean County Superintendent of Schools prior to its ratification at Lavallette’s April 27 budget meeting.

Lavallette boasts the lowest school tax rate in the county, according to the school’s business administrator, Patricia Christopher. Under the new budget, a Lavallette home  –  averaged at $879,000  –  would pay $1,488 in school taxes, or $37 more than last year.
