Library to host lecture on slavery in New Jersey

SPRING LAKE — In honor of Black History Month, the Spring Lake Public Library will host a virtual presentation discussing the history of slavery in New Jersey.

Rick Geffken, author of “Stories of Slavery in New Jersey,” will present “The Last Northern State to Abolish Slavery” on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Those interested in attending the virtual event must send an RSVP to splklib1@gmail.com. Participants will then receive a link to the Zoom meeting via email.

“It is Black History Month and it is an important topic,” said Janet Boldt, library director. “I know that people are interested in it because we’ve had a really good response to it already.”
