POINT PLEASANT — The Point Pleasant Boro Rotary Club is continuing to provide service to the community by collecting large print puzzle books that will be distributed to local hospitals and healthcare centers.
According to organizers, hundreds of books have already been collected, sorted and bundled for distribution. Donations will soon be made to Crest Pointe Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on Hulse Road, Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township and Hackensack Meridian Health Sub-Acute Rehab at Wall.
“In light of the ongoing pandemic and with our fundraising events forced to be postponed, I wanted to do something with the Rotary that would still benefit the community,” president-elect Bernadette Antonelli told The Ocean Star.
“Being hospitalized or in a nursing facility and away from loved ones during these trying times can be overwhelming. I thought the puzzle books would be a little extra treat to help the patients pass the time.”
Examples of puzzle books being collected include word search, crossword and sudoku.
“I spoke with the hospital and, again because of the pandemic, they are limited in what they felt comfortable taking from the public. I thought the large print puzzle books would be a useful and easy item for them to handle,” Ms. Antonelli said.
“The community response has been wonderful and so many appreciated the idea that we are doing this. We have already collected over 500 books and we are hoping this will be an ongoing project.
“It warms our hearts to know we are brightening someone’s day and hopefully putting a smile on their faces. As always, Rotary is about ‘Service Above Self,’ and we hope in some small way this project will bring joy to those who receive them.”
Donations of any type of puzzle books are appreciated, particularly large print. Donations can be dropped off at 2410 Mark Place, Point Pleasant Borough and all donations are appreciated.
