BRICK TOWNSHIP — Firefighters responded to a small blaze in the Herbertsville section of Brick early in the morning of Tuesday, Nov.17.

First responders were originally called to a report of a smoke condition at 448 Rose Avenue, according to Brick’s Chief of Fire Safety Kevin Batzel, who said the situation was upgraded to a structure fire — a scenario in which all four township fire companies are dispatched — upon the arrival of the chief.

“They did find a fire in the area of a heating source in the basement,” Mr. Batzel said. “They were able to stretch lines to a fire hydrant and use an inch-and-three-quarter line to extinguish the fire in the basement [and then] vented the house.”

The entire incident lasted approximately one hour, according to Mr. Batzel.
