BAY HEAD — Bay Head Elementary School officials have announced the first coronavirus case in the K-8 school.
“This message is to inform you that the Bay Head School was notified of a laboratory-confirmed case of Coronavirus Disease 2019 [COVID-19] within our school community which occurred during the November break. We are providing this notification consistent with our Restart and Recovery Plan,” according to a letter on the school website Nov. 11 from Principal Frank Camardo and Superintendent Peter Morris.
“While confidentiality restrictions prevent us from sharing additional details, upon notification of the positive test result, the school, along with the Ocean County Health Department, immediately engaged in contract tracing to determine if the individual had close contact with any other individuals here at school.”
Students and staff recently had off from Monday, Nov. 2 to Wednesday, Nov. 4 for a deep cleaning of the school facility to be conducted, as well as Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 off for faculty to virtually attend the New Jersey Education Association teacher convention.
“The individual was a staff member and is quarantined at home. We had off last week and the staff member has not been in school at all this week,” Mr. Camardo told The Ocean Star Wednesday.
Bay Head Elementary School students and staff returned to full-day, in-person instruction Sept. 8, with new procedures in place to ensure everyone’s safety including temperature checks conducted by school officials, wearing masks, and much more.
“Consistent with our plan, the building custodial staff continues to implement deep cleaning protocols which include the application of chlorinated disinfecting spray, which is EPA-approved to neutralize COVID-19,” the letter states.
“As always, we appreciate our community’s support and cooperation. You can assist us by remaining vigilant but sensible in your approach to dealing with this health concern.”
