Fox extends lead in Bradley Beach vote for mayor

BRADLEY BEACH — The continuing vote count in the Bradley Beach mayor’s race showed Larry Fox has extended his lead over Councilman Al Gubitosi as of 5:08 p.m. Friday morning.

Unofficial results posted by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office showed that Mr. Fox was leading his rival by 941 votes to 867. Initial results on election night had shown that Mr. Fox had a less than a 50-vote lead in the race.

“Hang on to your hats, we’ve got a little bit of a race here,” Mr. Fox said on Wednesday morning, adding that he was “as optimistic as can be at this point.

“We just have to wait on the data,” he said.

At that point around 1,200 votes have been cast in the nonpartisan Bradley Beach mayor’s race.

Councilman Gubitosi said Wednesday that he was encouraged by the closeness of the race, saying: “It’s exciting. It’s a real race as I thought that it would be,” he said. “I have been telling people for weeks that I was hoping it would be close … right now I still think it is anyone’s race.”
