Lavallette moves to ban Airbnb rentals during outbreak

LAVALLETTE — The borough council has introduced an emergency resolution to ban Airbnb rentals in Lavallette until further notice due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.

The council unanimously voted to introduce during a virtual meeting on Monday, March 23.

“There are several in town that we are concerned about [property owners] renting out for short periods of time to people with no idea what their health is,” said Mayor Walter LaCicero. “So we really don’t want people bringing their problems into our community we have enough trouble just trying to keep own people distanced from one another.”

The borough has been taking precautions to limit the spread of the virus. Currently, the mayor said the borough does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19, but they have several residents who are in self-quarantine after possible exposure to the virus.
