AVON-BY-THE-SEA — Members of the Avon community honored a lifelong resident of the borough who died in September of 2018, with an induction into the Avon Elementary School Hall of Fame.
Lisa Neary began her journey at Avon Elementary School as a student and athlete in 1964, was involved at the school as a mother to Christopher, Jennifer and Jill, and remained a devoted employee from 1996 to 2018.
Her husband Gene Neary and brother George Christopher were the masters of ceremonies at the Nov. 13 induction. Both spoke of Ms. Neary’s smile and kindness as well as her pride, loyalty and devotion to Avon.
Mr. Christopher said Ms. Neary spent more than half of her life at Avon Elementary School, as a student, an employee and a parent of three Avon alumni, noting that Ms. Neary was proud that her own children attended the school that she loved so dearly.
“The stage for her life was always played out within these four walls,” he said.
Mr. Christopher said the school “shaped her childhood, defined her adulthood and embraced her at her moments of greatness, joy and challenges respectively.”
“My family is honored that Lisa is and always will be apart of this treasure,” Mr. Neary said, describing Ms. Neary as “a shining gem in the treasure chest” that is Avon Elementary School.
